Free Discharge of Subsurface Drainage Effluent: An Alternate Design of the Surface Drain System in Pakistan

In Pakistan, many subsurface (SS) drainage projects were launched by the Salinity Control and Reclamation Project (SCARP) to deal with twin problems (waterlogging salinity). some cases, sump pumps installed for disposal of SS effluent into surface channels. Presently, have become dysfunctional due social financial constraints. This study evaluates alternate design Paharang system that could permit discharge in response gravity. The proposed was completed after successive trials terms lowering bed level decreasing channel slope. Interconnected MS-Excel worksheets developed L-section X-section. Design continuity achieved ensuring water levels receiving drain lower than outfalling drain. cross-section set within present row a few changes on service roadside. side slope taken as 1:1.5 spoil bank inner outer slopes kept 1:2 entire design. earthwork calculated excavation increasing section place excavated materials specific manner. showed modification is technically admissible allows continuous from area.
